Congratulations to all of this years Novice League competitors. Jordan Jira was the Novice league champion at 103 pounds. I would like to have put everyones results up here, but since the novice league does not post the results of their tournaments and ONLY 1 parent emailed me their childs results, I have no idea how your children faired at these events. Next year we are hoping to have some matches set up during the week as well more scramble style tournaments on the weekends where there are no tournaments going on. Feel free to send any comments or results to lgilford@marysvillewrestlingclub.com.
This year the Marysville Wrestling Club will be placing an added emphasis on our novice program with an added tournament geared towards the beginning wrestler. The feedback we got from athletes and parents about these events last year was tremendous. We nearly placed at the mid season tourney in Ballard last year and would have had a terrific showing at the league except our athletes were exhausted from wrestling the day before. This year the novice league will be trying to hold more tournaments on Saturdays when there are USAW wrestling tournaments going on to try and eliminate some of the "Ringers" from showing up. These tournaments and the entire league for that matter, are set up for kids with no more than TWO years of experience(excluding competition as a pee-wee). Coaches can allow wrestlers with three years of experience to wrestle if the coach feels they are wrestling at a novice level. League champions and wrestlers who have placed at a state level are excluded from participating in league tournament competition(excluding pee-wee)
One of the greatest advantages to Marysville Wrestling Clubs' dual participation in the WSWA as well as WWKWL is that we are provided with two separate forums for our wrestlers of various skill levels two participate in. Our beginning and novice wrestlers our able to compete in a league all their own with other beginning wrestlers while our more experienced kids are able to wrestle against opponents with similar skill levels. This serves to keep a level playing field for all of our athletes and allows excitement about wrestling to remain high throughout our ranks.
Schedule of Events
This year, the Western Washington Kids Wrestling League will have three novice tournaments as of the latest meeting(more may be added). On top of these, Marysville Wrestling Club will try to get together with Everett Blue and Gold to hold a dual meet to coincide with a Varsity event at Marysville Pilchuck High School. Anybody who has been around the program for a while will remember when we used to do these with Arlington. They were a blast for the kids and a great way to meet other wrestling families in the area. Check back for an exact date on this event.
On November 18 or 19 Everett Blue & Gold will be hosting the first novice tournamentof the year at Everett High School
On December 9th, Lake Stevens will be hosting the mid season tournament at Lake Stevens High School.
On January 21, Oak Harbor will be hosting the Novice League Championship at Oak Harbor High School. This tournament will be the day after their Saturday tournament, so please plan accordingly
